History[]

The Resistance is a national movement that formed in 2025, in the wake of the KPA shutting down all American technology and occupying the country in order to strip its assets to cover America's outstanding debts to North Korea.[1] In the four years since, the Resistance attempted several times to touch off a national uprising to remove the KPA, while its constant attacks and assassinations have led the occupation forces to adopt a ruthless policy towards the citizenry and treat all Resistance members as terrorists. Any association with them is treated with extreme harshness, up to and including execution on the spot, particularly for people already convicted by the KPA.[2]

While KPA propaganda and the steady rise in the number of collaborators undermined the Resistance, the greatest setback came after the Battle of Philly in 2027, when the Resistance attempted to wrest control of the city from the KPA, backed by remnants of the American war machine. The effort ultimately failed, with the Resistance decimated and demoralized and much of the city in ruins. The KPA's policies became even more brutal, with extrajudicial executions of suspected Resistance fighters becoming the norm.[3]

Subsequent successful local uprisings led the KPA to resort to, effectively, genocide. If a city is in open revolt and KPA's conventional forces are unable to restore order, they retreat and the city is gassed using airships. By 2029, Boston, Pittsburgh,[4][5] and New Orleans were destroyed.[6]

Philadelphia Uprising[]

In 2029, Benjamin Walker, known nationwide as the Voice of Freedom, was captured by the KPA during his attempt to enter Philadelphia and contact the Resistance cell there. The only survivor of the crackdown, Ethan Brady, made contact with Jack Parrish, becoming a key asset in the fight to retake Philadelphia and incite an uprising. Parrish initially planned to liberate Walker, using a captured Goliath drone and James Crawford, a collaborator-turned-spy for the Resistance. The plan was a failure, as Crawford ultimately turned on the Resistance and the rescue team was forced to fight a running battle to get out of the trap safely. Subsequent crackdowns city-wide once again routed the Resistance, which only managed to rally by infiltrating the Restricted Zone and rallying its inmates to fight against the KPA.

Spearheaded by the freed inmates, the Resistance launched an all-out attack on Independence Hall to capture Mayor William Simpson, in order to have him issue a call to rise up against the KPA on live television. Simpson was killed by Dana Moore during the transmission, after his words triggered her PTSD (itself a result of Simpson's abuse of Moore), prompting Parrish to improvise a speech that went out across the city. Although clumsy, it resonated with the people, leading to the city rising up against the KPA.

In response, the KPA fell back and attempted to gas the city like before, using its fleet of airships. By a stroke of luck, the Resistance could respond this time, using surface-to-air missile launchers captured and hidden from the KPA. In a series of desperate counterattacks, Resistance forces under Ethan Brady managed to disable KPA's Duster drones and shot down the airships. Philadelphia was the first American city to successfully liberate itself and avoid the gassing.

Aftermath[]

Resistance (Homefront: The Revolution) (1)

However, the Resistance struggled to maintain their hold over Philadelphia, as the KPA continued both military operations and an intense propaganda campaign using Benjamin Walker as its mouthpiece. A combination of torture and coercion made it impossible for Walker to resist, and eventually the Resistance marked him for death. Brady was selected to carry out the mission, but instead of killing Walker, he cleared his innocence and rescued him, returning him to the Resistance intact.

Beyond the Walls[]

Weeks after the Philadelphia uprising, the Resistance's efforts were crushed by the KPA, which reorganized and rallied nationwide. Resistance operations were crippled, and eventually Philadelphia was once again recaptured and occupied. Parrish had the city evacuated into the countryside, in order to preserve the remaining forces for the future.[7] The success of the Resistance in Philadelphia attracted the attention of NATO and the European Union, however, and the survivors were contacted by Lisa Burnel, the sole survivor of a black ops unit carrying out Operation Eagle Shield.

NATO member countries were aware of the threat the KPA posed to them, but due to the APEX-powered superiority of the KPA, were unable to oppose Korean domination. In order to break the stalemate, NATO war planners chose to hit the APEX satellite network, using a nuclear strike to physically eliminate the satellites. The catch was that any nuclear attack by European powers would result in immediate retaliation by Korea and its allies, and so Burnel was dispatched to repair an American ICBM mothballed at Beckton Lake and launch it from within Korean-occupied territory. The Resistance remnants linked up with Burnel, and with the KPA in hot pursuit, managed to repair and launch the missile, destroying the APEX satellites and severely weakening the KPA's occupation by disabling their weapons integration, communications, and surveillance equipment. Both Brady and Burnel were killed in action, but the NATO invasion force was able to land in North America unimpeded, facing a crippled KPA and a Resistance movement reenergized by the arrival of European allies to help them crush the KPA and free America.

Organization[]

Resistance (Homefront: The Revolution) (2)

The Resistance is a nationwide network, spanning all over the continental United States, connected by underground tunnels and abandoned subway stations that the Resistance use to hide from the KPA. Due to their inferior numbers and technology, they primarily make use of guerrilla tactics such as ambushing KPA patrols, assassinating KPA personnel, stealing KPA weapons and technology and making hit-and-run attacks against KPA forces.

Propaganda is one of the key assets of the Resistance. In contrast with the reds dominating in APEX branding and KPA insignia, the Resistance adopted blue as its symbols, using it for graffiti, unit identification in the field, and to inspire hope in American citizens. Sympathizers are encouraged by Resistance Radio to use blue paint to deface public property, in order to demonstrate that the resistance is not dead.

Technology[]

Virtually all of the Resistance's weapons are improvised, as all of the KPA's technology is locked down with biometric identification software, making it impossible for an individual outside the KPA to use one of their weapons. However, the Resistance are able to salvage and restock supplies such as ammunition and medical equipment from the KPA from the field.

Resistance weaponry makes use of a modular system that allows for Resistance fighters to modify their equipment in the field; for example, Resistance Assault Rifles can be converted into a light machine gun or a limpet mine launcher, depending on the situation and the equipment required. The Resistance also makes use of the Guerrilla Toolkit, which are a series of improvised devices designed to meet the needs of the Resistance arsenal against foes such as KPA Armored Cars and Seeker automated drones.

Weapons[]

  • Handgun- Used by a sidearm by most fighters.
  • Submachine Gun- Fully automatic modification of the Handgun.
  • Pneumatic- Pneumatic modification of the Handgun
  • Assault Rifle- Primary weapon for most fighters.
  • LMG- Light Machine Gun modification of the Assault Rifle.
  • Limpet Mine Launcher- Launcher modification of the Assault Rifle.
  • Shotgun- Used by some Resistance fighters.
  • Full-Auto- Fully automatic modification of the Shotgun.
  • Inferno Launcher- Flamethrower modification of the Shotgun.

Guerrilla Toolkit[]

  • Incendiary- Anti-infantry firebomb, produces a large burst of flames.
  • Explosive- High explosive IED, causes a large explosion that can destroy vehicles.
  • Distraction- Non-lethal firecracker, causes a series of small explosions that prompt enemies to investigate.
  • Hack Tool- Non-lethal device, produces a small blue plume of smoke that will cause certain systems to activate and others to focus on enemy soldiers.

  1. Resistance Radio: "Our situation is so ugly. The KPA are simply asset-stripping our country. Taking every conceivable commodity to reclaim on our debt to them. They hate being here as much as we hate watching them suck our country dry. What really scares me is what happens when there's nothing left to take."
  2. Restricted Zone PA: "Prisoners found to be contacting terrorist groups will be executed. Do not risk death by helping deluded ant-social criminals."
  3. Resistance Radio: "The Battle of Philly - those words hurt to say. But we mustn't ever forget. We fought the KPA, we fought tooth and nail in the streets of Philadelphia, and there wasn't a single person who thought we'd lose that war. We were so proud to be a part of the Second War of Independence, minute men of a new era. And then it all came crashing down. Loss after loss, defeat after defeat. They decimated us, and we passed the point of no return. Too few survivors, no more will to fight. Our numbers, our morale, destroyed. The Battle of Philly. Never forget."
  4. Mayor Simpson: "Citizens of Philadelphia... It's time to fight back, to-t... I can't read this!"
Jack Parish: "Read it, you fucking weasel."
Mayor Simpson: "It's insane! Don't you understand?! ...Strike up a revolution, and they'll wipe out every American in the city! Resistance or otherwise!"
    Jack Parish: "Bullshit."
Mayor Simpson: "Yeah? Boston. Pittsburgh. When was the last time you heard anything outta them? "
Jack Parish: "You expect me to believe someone who turned on his own people?"
Mayor Simpson: "God dammit, I didn't turn on anyone! Life's not so black and white! I use my position to do what I can! ...Look, there are soldiers swarming here as we speak. If you lower your weapons, I swear - I swear. I'll do what I can to make sure they show mercy and maybe- "
  5. Resistance fighter: " Jesus Brady, they're going to kill everyone!"
Resistance fighter: " We don't have gas masks for everyone, what are we gonna do?"
Resistance fighter: " This must be what happened in Boston and Pittsburgh. They gassed everyone."
Resistance fighter: " Maybe we can shoot down the airships. We got to try."
Resistance fighter: " How can they do this? It's genocide for God's sake."
  6. Resistance Radio: "We have a concern. New Orleans Alpha and Pittsburgh Alpha cells have been silent, for several weeks. We're sending scouts down to investigate and God, I hope they're okay. Let's hope it's something as simple as comms system problems, but something feels wrong. Something feels very wrong,"
  7. DLC summary: "After the uprising in Philadelphia the KPA were driven out, but revolts in other cities were brutally suppressed. Now the KPA are back and Philadelphia's defences have been smashed. You return from the front lines with news of the defeat.
